Heidelberg Tips – Transportation 01
Going to Heidelberg…
Heidelberg is located about midway between Stuttgart Airport and Frankfurt Airport. You can take a train from the Hauptbahnhof to either Frankfurt or Stuttgart and get a connecting train from there. There are also direct buses to Frankfurt Airport from the Renaissance Heidelberg Hotel Heidelberg's public transport network is made up of buses and trams with Bismarck Platz acting as the main public-transport hub.
Germany has an excellent, very punctual rail infrastructure. Most of the major train routes go to Mannheim where you change onto a regional train that takes around 15 minutes to get from Mannheim to Heidelberg. The main tourist office is located at the Hauptbahnhof – main train station so you can get your walking guides and heidelberg cards here. The Hauptbahnhof is located a 10 minute tram ride from the centre of town – or you can take a leisurely walk down the long Hauptstrasse (running parallel with the River neckar) into the centre of town doing some shopping on the way. The old town starts at Bismarckplatz, which is the main hub for trams and buses, at one end of the Hauptstrasse. The old town then runs along the Haupstrasse all the way down to the the Karlstor, past the castle.
